The government said both sides tested alignment, reviewed proposals and identified remaining gaps while maintaining high standards.
The UK and Turkiye completed the fifth round of enhanced free trade agreement talks in Ankara, closing 11 chapters to date.
Discussions covered goods market access, digital trade, investment, procurement, intellectual property and sustainability.
For sourcing teams, the talks could shape future trade terms; a sixth round is expected in the autumn.
It stated there had been particularly strong progress in legal services and growing momentum in intellectual property.
Trade between the UK and Turkiye rose 4.3 per cent from the previous year in the four quarters to the end of Q4 2025, said the statement citing Office for National Statistics (ONS) data.
The government further said the negotiations are aimed at strengthening bilateral trade and creating conditions that can increase UK exports to Turkiye.
The sixth round of negotiations is expected to take place in the autumn. Ministers will update Parliament on the progress of discussions as talks continue, while the government said it would sign only an agreement aligned with the UK’s national interests and standards.
For textile, apparel and sourcing businesses trading between the two markets, the talks remain relevant because they include goods market access and other trade-enabling areas.
