It aims to reduce tariff and non-tariff barriers, expand market access for US exporters and deepen co-operation on investment security, export controls and duty evasion.
The United States and Jordan have signed the US-Jordan Agreement on Reciprocal Trade to expand market access, reduce tariff and non-tariff barriers and strengthen supply chain resilience.
Jordan will continue duty-free access for almost all US goods while enhancing labour, environmental and intellectual property standards.
The agreement also deepens co-operation on investment security.
It also includes commitments to strengthen labour and environmental standards, enhance intellectual property protection and improve customs procedures, USTR said in a press release.
Under the agreement, Jordan will continue to provide duty-free access for almost all US-origin goods while removing non-tariff barriers affecting American exports.
Jordan also committed to improving trade by enforcing environmental laws, protecting labour rights, including prohibiting imports made with forced labour within five years of the agreement’s entry into force, strengthening intellectual property protection and ensuring fair trade practices.
The two countries also agreed to co-operate on addressing non-market policies of third countries, reinforcing regional economic security and improving supply chain resilience and innovation.
Ambassador Greer said the agreement reflects the US administration’s efforts to strengthen economic partnerships in the Middle East while expanding opportunities for American exporters.
“President Trump is deepening our economic and strategic partnerships in the Middle East, reaching deals to unlock new opportunities for American exporters,” Greer said. “I thank my counterparts from Jordan for their commitment to achieving fair, balanced, and reciprocal trade with the United States, particularly as we face common threats in the region.”
According to the US administration, the agreement is intended to promote reciprocal trade conditions, strengthen regional co-operation and enhance long-term investment while supporting American manufacturers, farmers and other producers.
