Watch: Truck carrying mangoes overturns, crowd rushes to grab fruit; netizens say, ‘Humanity is dead’

Sometimes, it is not the accident itself that becomes the biggest story, but how people respond to it. That is what is happening with a viral video widely shared on social media. The clip shows an overturned truck loaded with mangoes, but instead of focusing on the crash, many online users are talking about the crowd that gathered to collect the fruit scattered across the road. The video has sparked a debate about civic sense, empathy, and public behaviour. While many expressed disappointment over what they saw, others shared personal experiences to highlight the financial losses truck owners can suffer in such situations.

What does the viral video show?

The video, shared on X by the account @gharkekalesh, shows mangoes strewn across the road after a truck overturns. Soon after, a crowd gathers around the vehicle and begins collecting the fruit. Some people are seen carrying bags and sacks, while others use sarees and dupattas to take away the mangoes. The exact date and location of the incident have not been independently verified. However, one social media user claimed it may have occurred in Karnataka based on the truck’s number plate. There has been no official statement on the driver’s condition, and no injuries to passersby have been reported.

Social media users react

The clip quickly drew thousands of reactions, with many users criticizing the crowd’s response. One user wrote, “That’s why we say humanity is dead. How are people so uncivilized these days?”Another commented, “Here, people don’t even help someone who’s on the verge of dying. Expecting them to have the basic decency not to steal from an accident scene is asking for too much.”A third user shared a personal experience, writing, “My father used to own a truck. One day, it overturned while loaded with onions, which were costing over Rs 80 [per kg] at the time due to a shortage. All the onions were looted just like this, and we lost around Rs 35 lakhs. Only the owner knows the pain because they are the one bearing the loss.”Disclaimer: The Times of India has not independently verified the authenticity, location, or date of the viral video. The report is based on content circulating on social media.Thumb image: X
