CLAT 2027 syllabus, exam pattern unchanged for UG, PG exams; Consortium issues official update

The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) and the National Law School of India University (NLSIU) have confirmed that there will be no changes to the syllabus or examination pattern for the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2027.The decision was taken during the Consortium’s Governing Body meeting held on July 18, 2026.According to the official announcement, the existing syllabus and exam sections will continue for both undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) CLAT 2027 examinations.However, the CLAT 2027 convenor and paper setters will consider the recommendations of the CLAT Expert Committee Report 2026 related to the quality and format of questions wherever possible.The Consortium has also decided to publish the CLAT Expert Committee Report 2026 on its official website. Students, experts and members of the public can submit their suggestions through the online feedback form until August 31, 2026. The feedback received will be considered while planning future changes to the examination.

CLAT UG 2027 exam pattern

Since there are no changes, the CLAT UG 2027 exam will continue in the existing format.The examination will be a two-hour computer-based test consisting of 120 multiple-choice questions (MCQs). Each correct answer will carry one mark, while 0.25 marks will be deducted for every incorrect answer.The question paper will include the following sections:

  • English Language
  • Current Affairs, including General Knowledge
  • Legal Reasoning
  • Logical Reasoning
  • Quantitative Techniques

The Governing Body also said that the recommendations made by the expert committee will be reviewed for possible implementation in CLAT 2028.
