The International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF) reported a slight decline in global textile spinning capacity in 2024, with short-staple spindles falling to 219 million units and open-end rotors to 9.6 million.
Shuttle-less looms remained stable at 1.67 million, while raw material consumption eased to 42 million tonnes despite higher use of cellulosic and synthetic fibres.
The number of shuttle-less looms installed was stable in 2024 (1.67 Mio, +0.3%, see Fig. 3). 83% of all looms were installed in Asia and Oceania. Total raw material consumption in the short-staple organized sector slightly decreased to 42 Mio tons despite consumption of cellulosic and synthetic fibres slightly rising (see Fig. 4).
