Jordan’s textile-RMG exports to US to be exempt from customs duties

Jordan’s textile-garment exports to the United States will be exempt from customs duties under the Reciprocal Trade Agreement signed in Washington recently, according to the former’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Yarub Qudah.The latter will also reduce reciprocal tariffs on other Jordanian exports to 10 per cent under the deal, according to a Jordanian news agency.

Jordan’s textile-garment exports to the US will be exempt from customs duties under the Reciprocal Trade Agreement signed in Washington, the former’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Yarub Qudah said.
The latter will also reduce reciprocal tariffs on other Jordanian exports to 10 per cent under the deal.
Jordan will continue to grant duty-free access to US exports under the 2001 bilateral FTA.

The agreement is expected to boost Jordan’s exports to the United States, particularly garments and textiles, which remained the country’s leading exports to the US market, exceeding JD 431 million during the first four months this year.

Negotiated over nearly a year, the agreement builds on the economic partnership between the two countries, including the Jordan-US Free Trade Agreement (FTA), which entered into force on December 17, 2001. Jordan will continue to grant duty-free access to US exports under the 2001 FTA.
