Established in 1982, the mill has been closed since the 1999 super cyclone. It employed around 1,200 workers before closure. Many valuable machines and tools are rusting in the mill.
India’s Odisha state has decided to set up a modern textile industry cluster in the premises of Shree Sarala Weavers Cooperative Spinning Mill at Tirtol in Jagatsinghpur district.
The mill has been closed since 1999.
As a first step, Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation has given $2.41 million to the handloom and knitting industries department to get possession of the mill property.
