Nepalese PM takes steps to revive garment industry

Following a recent meeting with representatives from the Garment Association Nepal, Prime Minister Balendra Shah has instructed ministries to clear pending administrative delays, form a dedicated Textile and Clothing Development Council—a long-standing demand of garment entrepreneurs, and restart factories closed for long.Industry representatives say the council would help promote exports and better manage imports by supporting products based on locally-available raw materials.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been asked to resolve laboratory testing hurdles that have restricted exports to the United States, driving a broader strategy to substitute imports and boost exports.
