Canada’s apparel imports fall 6.9%, exports also down in Jan-May

According to sourcing intelligence tool TexPro, China supplied apparel worth $*.*** billion, down ** per cent from $*.*** billion in January-May ****. Its share fell to **.** per cent from **.** per cent, although it continued to account for nearly one-fourth of Canada’s apparel imports.

Bangladesh remained the second-largest supplier at $***.*** million, down *.* per cent, but its share edged up to **.** per cent. Vietnam was close behind at $***.*** million, recording marginal growth of *.* per cent. Its share increased to **.** per cent from **.** per cent, narrowing the gap with Bangladesh to just $*.*** million.

Imports from Cambodia declined *.* per cent to $***.*** million, although its share increased to **.** per cent from **.** per cent. India’s shipments fell * per cent to $***.*** million, with its share unchanged at *.** per cent.By product, trousers and shorts dominated Canada’s apparel imports at $*.*** billion, accounting for **.** per cent of the total. Jerseys followed with $***.*** million, T-shirts with $***.*** million, shirts with $***.*** million and coats with $***.*** million, as per TexPro.

Canada’s apparel exports declined *.* per cent year on year to $***.*** million during January-May ****. The US remained the largest destination with shipments of $***.*** million, but exports fell **.* per cent and its share dropped sharply to **.** per cent from **.** per cent.
