China fiscal revenue rises 4.7% in H1 2026

China’s fiscal revenue rose 4.7 per cent year on year to 12.1 trillion yuan (~$1.78 trillion) in the first half of 2026, according to official data. For textile, apparel and retail sectors tracking China, the figures provide a current reading of the country’s fiscal backdrop.The pace of growth continued to pick up from 4 per cent in the first five months, indicating steady improvement in fiscal revenue performance.

In the January-June period, tax revenue totalled 9.79 trillion yuan, up 5.3 per cent year on year, while fiscal expenditure climbed 1.5 per cent to 14.33 trillion yuan, the Ministry of Finance data showed.

China will implement a more proactive fiscal policy in 2026, with the deficit-to-GDP ratio set at around 4 per cent, according to this year’s government work report.

The government work report projected expenditure in the general public budget to reach 30 trillion yuan for the first time, an increase of roughly 1.27 trillion yuan compared with 2025.
